Why I Built BuyAnyProperty: Rethinking How Australians Connect With Property

Buying property has changed dramatically over the past decade, but the way people discover property opportunities has remained surprisingly traditional.

I kept asking myself a simple question:

What if people could search for virtually any property in Australia and, when they found something they were interested in, simply tell the owner directly?

That question became the starting point for BuyAnyProperty.

A different approach to property discovery

BuyAnyProperty was created as Australia’s Property Marketplace — a platform designed to give buyers another way to discover property opportunities and connect with property owners and developers.

Rather than being built around a traditional agency model, the platform focuses on creating direct connections between people who are interested in property and the people who own or develop it.

Our search functionality allows users to search more than 11 million Australian properties and addresses, giving them the ability to explore properties beyond those traditionally advertised for sale.

If a buyer finds a property they are interested in, they can show their interest directly to the owner through BuyAnyProperty.

That creates a very different starting point for a property conversation.

What if the property you want isn't advertised?

This is one of the ideas behind BuyAnyProperty.

A buyer might drive past a house and think:

"I would buy that property if the owner ever wanted to sell."

Traditionally, there may be no obvious way to communicate that interest unless the property eventually comes onto the market.

BuyAnyProperty changes that dynamic.

A buyer can search for the property on the platform and express their interest directly to the owner.

The owner can then decide whether they want to engage.

There is no obligation for either party to proceed. The platform simply creates the connection.

Connecting buyers with developers

BuyAnyProperty also provides developers with another channel to reach potential property buyers.

Developers can showcase their developments on the platform, allowing buyers to discover projects and express their interest directly.

For developers, the objective isn't to replace the major property portals.

It is to provide an additional channel for reaching buyers — particularly buyers who are actively searching for property opportunities.

Building a property ecosystem

The bigger vision for BuyAnyProperty goes beyond property search.

We are building an ecosystem that can connect buyers, property owners, developers and property professionals in one place.

As the platform grows, we are also bringing together professionals who can support buyers through different stages of the property journey.

The idea is simple:

Give people more ways to find opportunities and more ways to start conversations.

From an idea to a growing platform

Building a technology platform from the ground up is not easy.

There are plenty of challenges — technology, awareness, attracting users, working with developers and property professionals, and convincing people to try something that operates differently from what they are accustomed to.

But every new developer that joins, every property that gets added and every person who uses the platform provides another indication that there is an opportunity to build something different.

The goal isn't to change the property industry overnight.

It is to create another option.

The next stage

The Australian property market is the starting point.

The longer-term vision for BuyAnyProperty is much larger.

Property is a global asset class, and the concept of being able to search, discover and express interest in properties has potential well beyond Australia.

For now, the focus is on building a strong Australian platform, growing the number of properties, developers, buyers and professionals participating, and continuing to improve the experience.

The journey is still in its early stages.

But the original question remains the same:
